Home Oxygen Machines and Concentrators

1. Home oxygen concentrators are designed for home use only and are not fully mobile. Home oxygen concentrators provide oxygen therapy patients with a quiet, durable, and reliable source of medical-grade oxygen, allowing them to stay comfortable without leaving their homes. Stationary oxygen concentrators are powered entirely by a wall outlet, so there are no batteries to charge or replace.

2. The medical-grade oxygen produced by home concentrators is delivered in the continuous flow method described previously. This means that oxygen flows continuously through a cannula to the patient's nostrils. Most doctors recommend and prescribe continuous flow oxygen for nighttime use.

3. It is not uncommon for patients with sleep apnea to also receive oxygen therapy. Patients who use CPAP or BiPAP and receive oxygen therapy connect their sleep apnea device to a continuous-flow home concentrator.

4. The settings on a stationary concentrator are pretty self-explanatory. In addition to the power button, the main adjustment on most devices is a flow tube with a knob on the bottom. This knob adjusts the flow rate in liters per minute. For newer stationary devices, you can adjust the settings with "+" and "-" buttons. The plus sign increases the setting and the minus sign decreases the setting.

5. Home concentrators are very rugged and will typically provide 20,000 to 30,000 hours of effective operation with routine maintenance. Routine maintenance includes keeping the air inlet clean and cleaning and/or replacing filters regularly.
